COMMUNITY

The Puyallup Masonic Family is very involved with our community.  We run several charitable programs that benefit the community.  Of these, the Bikes for Books program and the Junior Achievement Scholarships program directly effect the youth in our community.

SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT

Bikes for Books is a program that our lodge uses to promote reading in the local elementary schools.  We donate and present bikes to students at the local schools for completing reading goals set by their educators.

The Junior Achievement Scholarship program has been continuously running at our lodge for over 50 years.  Juniors in the three local high schools are chosen by their educators and then submit an application and essay for consideration.

EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

Every year, there is one educator in WA chosen as Educator of the Year by the MW Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Washington.  The Puyallup community and the Puyallup Masonic Family is proud to announce that the 2018 recipient of this honor is one of our own!  See below.

Mrs. Michelle Heeb, who teaches Spanish at Puyallup High School (PHS), was named Washington State Educator of the Year by the Scholarship Committee of the Grand Lodge of Washington.  MWB Jim Mendoza, VWB John R. Adamson, Corinthian Lodge Scholarship Chairman, and Kurt Miller, Washington Masonic Charities Children and Scholarship Services Director , made the presentation at the Puyallup High School Staff meeting on June 4, 2018.  Mrs. Heeb, who is a Majority Member of and also on the Puyallup Assembly of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls Advisory Board, and is a member of Naomi Chapter 13, Order of Eastern Star, has taught Spanish at Puyallup High School for many years.  She is also the Emergency Coordinator for PHS and is the designated "software guru" who helps others with technical issues.  As Emergency Coordinator she is responsible for the security of PHS and assists the Police and other emergency services with active shooter, lahar, and other emergency drills.
